Species Interactions: Predation, Competition, and Symbiosis
Imagine a big group of animals living together in a forest. Some of these animals eat other animals to survive. This is called predation. It’s like when a lion catches and eats a deer. It’s the lion’s way of getting food.
Sometimes, animals have to compete with each other for food or other things they need to survive. It’s like when two squirrels are both looking for acorns. They have to be quick to find the most acorns, so they can have enough to eat and store for the winter.
In some cases, animals help each other or live together in a way that benefits both. This is called symbiosis. For example, bees collect nectar from flowers to make honey. While collecting nectar, they pick up pollen on their bodies and spread it to other flowers, helping them reproduce.
