The Rock Cycle
The rock cycle is a process that involves the transformation of rocks from one type to another over geological time. It includes different stages:
- Weathering and erosion of existing rocks
- Transportation and deposition of sediments
- Compaction and cementation of sediments to form sedimentary rocks
- Metamorphism of existing rocks due to heat and pressure that creates metamorphic rocks
- Melting of all types of rocks, and solidification of the molten materials to form igneous rocks
