Explain Science

Kentrosaurus

Kentrosaurus was a dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 155 to 150 million years ago. It was a herbivore, which means it only ate plants. What made Kentrosaurus unique were the long, sharp spikes that ran along its back and tail. These spikes were made of bone and were probably used for defense.

While the spikes might look scary, they were not used to attack other animals. Instead, they would have acted as a deterrent to keep predators away. If a hungry dinosaur tried to attack a Kentrosaurus, it would have gotten a painful reminder to back off if it got too close to those spikes.
