A supernova is an astronomical event that occurs when a star exhausts its fuel and can no longer sustain its own weight. As a result, the star collapses under its own gravity, causing a massive explosion. This explosion can be as bright as an entire galaxy and can release as much energy as our sun will in its entire lifetime.
