Understanding Blood
Blood is a vital part of the body’s circulatory system, responsible for delivering oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and other essential components to every cell in the body. It is composed of plasma, a yellowish fluid in which red and white blood cells and platelets are suspended. Red blood cells are unique in that they contain hemoglobin, a protein that binds to oxygen and carbon dioxide, allowing them to function as oxygen transporters. White blood cells are part of the body’s immune system, helping to fight off infections and diseases. Platelets are essential for blood clotting, preventing excessive bleeding. Understanding the composition and function of blood is essential for maintaining good health and treating a wide range of medical conditions.
