Explain Science

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide is an important molecule in the atmosphere that plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth’s temperature. It is one of the greenhouse gases that trap heat and energy from the sun, preventing it from being reflected back into space. This natural warming effect is known as the greenhouse effect, and without it, the Earth would be too cold to sustain life.

However, human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation have increased the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, leading to an enhanced greenhouse effect and global warming. This has serious implications for the planet, including more frequent and intense heat waves, droughts, flooding, and sea level rise. It is crucial that we reduce our carbon footprint and work towards a more sustainable future.
