Understanding the Brain
The brain is a highly organized structure comprised of many specialized interconnected regions, each with different functions. The neocortex, for example, is responsible for higher cognitive functions like language and abstract reasoning, while the cerebellum controls movement and balance. A key feature of the brain is its plasticity, or the ability to change in response to experience. This allows the brain to adapt to new situations and learn from past experiences. Neuroscience is a rapidly advancing field which seeks to understand the complexities of the brain and how it gives rise to our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
