Kinetics and Equilibrium
Kinetics is concerned with the study of the factors that control the rate of chemical reactions. It involves the study of reaction mechanisms, reaction rates, and activation energies. Kinetics helps us understand how different variables such as temperature, pressure, concentration, and catalysts affect the rates of chemical reactions. Equilibrium is concerned with the state of balance between the reactants and products in a chemical reaction. It describes the point at which the forward and reverse reactions occur at the same rate, and the concentrations of reactants and products remain constant. The equilibrium constant is a fundamental property of a chemical reaction and helps us understand how the reaction reacts to different conditions, such as changes in temperature or pressure.
