Cadmium
Cadmium is a silvery-white metal that is widely distributed in the environment. It can be found in natural deposits or released by human activities, such as mining, smelting, and battery production. Cadmium compounds are used in a variety of products, including batteries, pigments, plastics, and solar panels. However, cadmium is highly toxic to humans and animals, even at low concentrations. Exposure to cadmium can cause lung and prostate cancer, kidney damage, and bone loss. It is important to reduce our exposure to cadmium by avoiding products that may contain it, properly disposing of batteries and electronic waste, and taking precautions when working in industries that produce or use cadmium.
