Groundwater and Aquifers
Groundwater is a vital natural resource that is stored underground in spaces within soil and rock formations called aquifers. These aquifers are made up of permeable layers of rock and sediment that allow the water to move through the earth. The water in aquifers slowly moves and is replenished by precipitation and other surface water sources. Groundwater is important because it provides a reliable source of freshwater for drinking, irrigation, and industrial uses. However, overuse and pollution of groundwater can lead to depletion and contamination of this valuable resource. Therefore, it is important to manage groundwater and aquifers sustainably to ensure that they continue to provide water for generations to come.
