Groundwater and Aquifers
Groundwater is water that has seeped into the ground and collects in the spaces between soil, sand, and rock. An aquifer is an underground layer of rock or sediment that contains and transmits water. Sometimes, we can see water flowing above ground in rivers and lakes, but groundwater is an invisible resource that can be found everywhere beneath our feet. Aquifers are important because they provide clean water for drinking, irrigation, and other uses.
