Understanding Orbits
An orbit is the path that one object in space takes as it moves around another object in space. This can happen because of gravity, which is the force that pulls all objects towards each other. Imagine you’re walking around a circle, and a friend is standing in the middle. If your friend throws a ball towards you, it will be pulled towards the middle because of gravity. But if you throw the ball fast enough, it can keep going around the circle without falling into the middle. That’s what an orbit is - an object moving fast enough around another object to keep from crashing into it.
