Rockets use Newton's Third Law of Motion to fly. The law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The rocket engine burns fuel, creating hot gases that shoot out of the bottom of the rocket. This action creates an equal and opposite reaction in the other direction, pushing the rocket upwards.
