The Human Skull
The human skull is made up of 22 bones that are joined together in movable and immovable joints. The bones of the skull have several functions including protecting the brain, providing attachment sites for muscles of the head and neck, and housing the sensory organs for vision, hearing, and smell. The movable joints allow the skull to change shape during childbirth and to accommodate growth of the brain during development.
