Geological Time Scale

The Geological Time Scale is a framework that geologists and other scientists use to understand and interpret Earth’s history. It’s divided into four main eras: the Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic. Each of these eras is then divided into periods, which are characterized by distinctive geological and biological events. For example, the Paleozoic era is known for the explosion of life in the oceans, while the Mesozoic is known for the age of the dinosaurs.

Understanding the Geological Time Scale is essential for interpreting the rock record and answering questions about Earth’s history, such as the timing and causes of major extinction events or the evolution of complex life. It’s also an important tool for understanding the relationship between Earth and the other planets in our solar system.
