The Earth's Atmosphere and Weather Systems

The Earth’s atmosphere is divided into five layers: the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere. The troposphere is the layer closest to the Earth’s surface, where all weather occurs. As you go higher in the atmosphere, the air gets colder and thinner. The ozone layer is found in the stratosphere and helps protect us from harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

Weather is influenced by many factors, including temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind. The sun’s energy drives weather patterns by heating up the Earth’s surface, causing warm air to rise and cool air to sink. This creates areas of high and low pressure that lead to changes in the weather, such as storms, hurricanes, and tornadoes.
