Fats are a macronutrient that plays a crucial role in our diet. They provide us with energy, help absorb certain vitamins, and support the growth and development of our body’s cells.

Fats are composed of smaller units called fatty acids. There are different types of fatty acids, including saturated, unsaturated, and trans fatty acids.

Saturated fats are mainly found in animal-based products such as meat, poultry, butter, and full-fat dairy products. These fats have been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is recommended to limit their consumption.

Unsaturated fats, on the other hand, are generally considered healthier fats. They can be further divided into two types: monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. Monounsaturated fats can be found in foods such as avocados, olive oil, and nuts, while polyunsaturated fats are present in fatty fish, seeds, and vegetable oils.

Trans fats are a type of fat that is formed when liquid fats are converted into solid fats, a process called hydrogenation. Trans fats are commonly found in processed foods, including fried foods, baked goods, and margarine. Consumption of trans fats has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, and therefore it is recommended to avoid them as much as possible.

When it comes to fats, it is important to focus on consuming a balanced amount of healthy fats, such as those found in avocados, nuts, and fish, while also limiting the intake of saturated and trans fats. Moderation is key when it comes to incorporating fats into our diet.
