Being vegan is a way of eating that excludes all animal products. Vegans don’t consume meat, dairy, eggs, or any other animal-derived ingredients. Instead, they rely on plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, and nuts.
People choose to follow a vegan diet for various reasons. Some do it for ethical reasons, believing that animals should not be harmed for food. Others choose veganism for health benefits, as a plant-based diet can be rich in nutrients and lower in saturated fat. It can help reduce the risk of conditions like heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes.
A vegan diet requires careful planning to ensure adequate intake of essential nutrients like protein, iron, calcium, and vitamin B12, which are commonly found in animal products. But with proper knowledge and varied food choices, it is possible to meet all nutrient needs on a vegan diet.
