Asteroids are small, rocky bodies that orbit the sun. They range in size from tiny pebbles to over 500 miles in diameter. Most asteroids are found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, but some come close to Earth. Some scientists believe an asteroid impact caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
