Explain Science

Fossil Fuels

Fossil fuels are formed from the remains of ancient organisms that have been buried under layers of rock and sediment for millions of years. Heat and pressure cause these organic materials to transform into coal, oil, and natural gas.

We extract fossil fuels through drilling and mining. This process can have negative impacts on the environment, including soil erosion, air and water pollution, and habitat destruction. In addition, burning fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change.
