Antioxidants

Have you ever wondered why we’re always told to eat our fruits and vegetables? One of the reasons is because they contain something called antioxidants. Our bodies naturally produce substances called free radicals when we digest food, exercise, or are exposed to things like pollution or sunlight. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can cause damage to our cells, which can lead to diseases like cancer, heart disease, and aging.

Antioxidants are molecules that can neutralize these free radicals and help prevent the damage they can cause. They act like bodyguards, protecting our cells from harm. Some common antioxidants include vitamins like vitamin C and vitamin E, as well as other compounds like beta-carotene and selenium.

To make sure we have enough antioxidants in our bodies, we need to eat a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts. These foods are packed with antioxidants that can help keep us healthy and protect our cells from damage.
