Pescatarian (Nutrition)

The concept of being a pescatarian involves following a diet that includes fish and seafood but excludes other types of meat such as poultry (chicken, turkey), red meat (beef, pork), and game meats. Pescatarians still enjoy a plant-based diet and often consume fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. They may also incorporate dairy products and eggs into their eating habits. The primary difference between a pescatarian and a vegetarian is the inclusion of fish and seafood in the former’s diet.

People choose a pescatarian diet for various reasons. Some believe it offers health benefits due to the high nutrient content of fish, which can provide omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Others may follow a pescatarian lifestyle for environmental or ethical reasons, such as concerns about animal welfare or sustainable fishing practices. It allows individuals to limit their consumption of animal products while still enjoying the nutritional benefits associated with fish.
