Jupiter
Jupiter is a gas giant that has a mass two and a half times greater than all the other planets in our solar system combined. It is primarily composed of hydrogen and helium gas and has a thick atmosphere with colorful bands of clouds created by different chemical compositions. Its iconic Great Red Spot is a high-pressure storm that has been raging for centuries. Jupiter has a strong magnetic field that traps charged particles and causes intense radiation belts, making it potentially hazardous for spacecraft exploration. Jupiter has at least 79 known moons, the four largest of which are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, and each has unique geological features due to the gravitational effects of Jupiter. Scientists continue to study Jupiter to better understand the formation and evolution of our solar system.
