Nutritional Deficiencies and Disorders

Nutritional deficiencies and disorders are conditions that occur when our body doesn’t get the necessary vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients it needs to function properly. This can happen due to a lack of variety in our diet, eating too much unhealthy food, or certain medical conditions that affect nutrient absorption.

When we don’t get enough of specific nutrients, it can lead to various health problems. For example, a lack of vitamin C can cause scurvy, which leads to weak gums, easy bruising, and fatigue. Iron deficiency can cause anemia, resulting in fatigue, weakness, and pale skin.

To prevent nutritional deficiencies, it’s important to have a well-balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy or dairy alternatives. A balanced diet ensures we get all the necessary nutrients our body needs. In some cases, supplements may be recommended to meet specific nutrient requirements.
