Understanding Uranus

Uranus is the seventh planet in the solar system and the third-largest planet. It is classified as an ice giant since it is mostly composed of rock and various types of ice, like water, ammonia, and methane. Uranus is known for being tilted on its side, so its axis of rotation is almost perpendicular to the plane of its orbit around the Sun. This unique characteristic means that Uranus’s seasons are extremely long, lasting about 20 Earth years each.
